Review: Blackberry Porsche Design P’9981 Smartphone

Research in Motion and Porsche has announced their new Blackberry Porsche smartphone two month ago and now the device has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with the model number REQ71UW. Dubbed as Blackberry Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone, the handset will be works on GSM 850/1900 with WCDMA bands II and V and it’s support for AT&T’s networks.

The Porsche Design P9981 smartphone designed with forged in stainless steel with chrome design and finished in leather and sculpted 35 key backlit QWERTY keyboard with Optical trackpad for easier typing and messaging plus exclusive PIN series that help easily identify with another Blackberry Porsche smartphone user. Dimension on the device are 115 x 67 x 11.3 mm with weight 155 g (include battery), so you can easily slip Blackberry P’9981 Porcshe design into your purse or back pocket.

On the inside, Blackberry P’9981 is based on 1.2GHZ Qualcomm MSM8655 processor paired with 768 MB RAM and running on the latest Blackberry OS 7 as the operating system with features an exclusive Porsche Design UI on top of the mobile platform. Here is 8 GB of internal storage that support microSD up to 32GB for memory expansion plus Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery provide up to 348 hours for standby time or up to 5 h 30 min for talk time.

Blackberry Porsche P’9981 also equipped with a 2.8 inches Transmissive TFT LCD touchscreen display that can produce 640 x 480 pixels resolution and offering stunning display. It’s also packs with Dual Microphone, speakers and 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 4X Digital Zoom, Geo-tagging, Face detection and Image Stabilisation, Scene Modes and capable to record 720p HD Video. Unfortunately, like the other BB smartphone, BB P’9981 is lack front facing camera to make video callings.

In term of connectivity, new Blackberry smartphone will be comes with 3.5mm stereo headset, built-in compass, GPS with A-GPS support, bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP+EDR, microUSB v2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n dual band and support Near Field Communication (NFC) for smart tags and connect it with other NFC device.

Like the other Blackberry 7 OS smartphone, the Porsche Design P’9981 also pre loaded with Augmented Reality, Wikitude World Browser that offer 40% faster than previous version, BlackBerry® Maps, latest BlackBerry Messenger, Documents to Go to edit and view office document, BlackBerry Balance technology and download free or paid apps, themes and games on BlackBerry App World™ 3.0. However there is no information about priced for this moment, but there is a rumors if Blackberry Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone will be sold for cost about $2,000.
