Verizon and Motorola has announced that the successor to the original Mororola Droid 2 smartphone and it looks very similar to the first Motorola Droid and has a new web browser to let you surf the internet with speed and agility.
Droid 2 is powered by 1GHz OMAP 3600 processor, Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, double the RAM amount (512MB instead of 256MB), vertical QWERTY slider with a 3.7″ WVGA touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, 8GB of internal storage paired with an 8GB microSD card in the box, and support Adobe’s Flash technology for mobile phones — a distinction that shouldn’t matter much now since other devices including HTC Evo and even the original Droid are getting over-the-air upgrades to Froyo.
Motorola DROID 2 QWERTY keyboard is larger, with raised keys for a better typing experience and will be capable of communicating with social network sites including Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Speech-to-text input and the virtual multi-touch keyboard allow for quick messaging; or customers can also use Swype for even easier text input. In addition, full push corporate e-mail delivers enhanced features such as remote wipe and password enforcement so that information remains secure.
DROID 2 also has a 3.5 mm headset jack, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and powered by an 1400 mAh battery. This deviec will also come with 3G hotspot capability for upto five supporting devices but that feature will cost an additional $20 a month. Mororola DROID 2 mobile phone allows the kind of access to the web that only a Flash supported phone can offer – full and rich and also support a new web browser to let you surf the internet with speed and agility.
Motorola Verizon DROID 2 pre-sale starts tomorrow and the day after that, August 12the smartphone is going to cost you $200 in Verizon with a contract or $600 without any subsidized deals. But there is no word from Motorola if and when an European Mororola DROID 2 version will be launched. Verizon will offer a special Star Wars edition of the Droid 2 at some point in the near future. It will come loaded with Star Wars-related content and made up to look like R2-D2 and Empire Strikes Back-themed
