Samsung Captivate Review and Spec

Posted by

Samsung and AT&T has launch of a new smartphone on the United States market, the Samsung Captivate.  The Captivate is an Android OS based smartphone that actually looks like it could be good. The carrier has been building up an inventory of Android phones and other alternatives to the iPhone.

The new Captivate android phone fits into Samsung’s Galaxy S class of devices, which are intended to helping Samsung capture more of the smartphone market from leaders like BlackBerry and iPhone.

This Captivate mobile phone is almost identical to the Samsung Galaxy S with its 4-inch AMOLED screen, Android 2.1 and 5.0-megapixel camera that captures high-definition video recording. The Samsung Captivate comes with a 1-gigahertz Hummingbird processor, Bluetooth 3.0 technology and high-speed 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. It has features an application called “Social Hub,” which grabs information from social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and shows it in one convenient view. The main menu of applications is also spread out across several panels that you can swipe from side-to-side instead of vertically like current Android phones.

The 1-GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor inside Samsung Captivate would offer theoretical speeds comparable to those of the 1-GHz Snapdragon chip in the Evo, the Apple A4 chip in the iPhone 4 and, reportedly, the Snapdragon chip in the Droid X. The Captivate also has features 16GB of internal memory, 720p video capture, 802.11n Wi-Fi link, GPS, HSPA 7.2Mbps connectivity, microSD/microSDHC, battery Li-Ion 1500 mAh with 750 hours (31 days) of Stand-by time, weight 118 gr, size 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm, MP3 player, and access to Samsung Media Hub, Samsung’s Social Hub and ActiveSync support are other features of the new device.

The Captivate also has a six-axis sensor, built-in accelerometer, a gyroscope, and has  pinch-to-zoom support. The Samsung Captivate represents a new breed of smartphone that will truly change and enrich the way consumers interact with their device on an everyday basis. AT&T won’t give any firm availability or pricing information on the new Samsung Captivate other than to say that it will be released within the coming months at AT&T retail locations.
