Samsung Galaxy Pocket A Low Budget Android Smartphone

Samsung has officially announced their low budget Android smartphone in lineup of Galaxy devices, called Samsung Galaxy Pocket. Unlike other Samsung smartphone that featuring big screen display, the Galaxy Pocket only sporting a 2.8-inch touchscreen LCD QVGA display which offer low resolutions at 240 x 320 pixel, so it’s not ideal for streaming video on YouTube.

Comes with slim and light candybar design with measures 103.7 x 57.5 x 12 mm and has weighs just at 97g plus a 1,200mAh Lithium Ion battery which offer long battery usage on single charge, it easily to slip Samsung Galaxy Pocket into your pocket or small purse and stay connected with your friends or family on the go. Under the hood, it has low configurations with an 832MHz processor and running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the operating system with support Samsung TouchWiz UX for smoother menu navigation and shortcuts to frequently-used functions.

For storage, you’ll find a 3GB of internal memory that can expandable up to 32GB through microSD card slot and on the back there is 2 mega pixel camera for capture photos or video recording (QVGA@15fps). Other specifications are a 3.5mm headphone jack, Stereo FM Radio with RDS, Gps with A-GPS support, Accelerometer, Digital Compass, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n for wireless internet connection. Working on EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS 900/2100, the handset promises will be support high speed internet access up to HSDPA 3.6 Mbit/s.

As latest Samsung smartphone, the Galaxy Pocket low end smartphone also comes with Samsung Mobile Service, such as Social Hub, Samsung Kies and download more useful apps in Samsung Apps. It’s also support multi range of multimedia formats, includes MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, WAV, MID, IMY for audio formats and MPEG4, H.263, H.264 for video formats plus.

Like other Android smartphone, it also comes with Google Mobile Service support, such as Gmail™, Picassa, YouTube™, Google Search, Google Maps™, Syncing with Google Calendar™ and download more than 400.000 useful apps for games, widget, music, entertainment and more in Android Market. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Pocket Andorid smartphone lacks an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness adjustment, front facing camera for video chats and upgraded to Android ICS. According the press release, Samsung Galaxy Pocket smartphone will be release in Italy starting from March 2012 and in the UK some time later this year, but no word on pricing at this moment.
