Every September in St. Louis the skies above Forest Park host a magnificent sight more than fifty hot air balloons lifting off in a glorious array of colors. the Forest Park Balloon Race 2010 and Balloon Glow will be on September 17 & 18th at Forest Park. Both events will take place on Central Field in Forest Park near the Jewel Box, and both are FREE.
The 2010 Forest Park Balloon Race is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, 2010 and will take place on Central Field in Forest Park, near the Jewel Box. The Balloon Glow will take place on Friday, September 17, 2010 also on Central Field. At the Glow, Visitors are invited to wander around the balloons–up close!–and get right underneath them. Kids sneak a peak inside the baskets and look up inside the balloons. The balloons do not launch, but stay tethered by their crews to the ground. This draws a huge crowd and it’s one of those events worth the traffic trouble to go and see.

The Balloon Glow offers spectators a breathtaking view of inflated balloons lighted by their burners. Get up close and walk around the balloons. Refreshments and Food are available. The event will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at approximately 9pm.
The night before the 2010 forest park balloon race, Forest Park lights up with what seems like giant lanterns. The lanterns of course are the hot air balloons being fired up at night, putting on a show for all those to see. It is a lot of fun to walk through and see them.

Spend your day in beautiful Forest Park and help celebrate the 20th Birthday of the Energizer Bunny. The Purina Children’s Entertainment area is filled with pony rides, games, and other activities for kids. The Entertainment Stage features a variety of local talent. During the Photo contest the public can enter the balloon field and take pictures of their favorite balloons. Prizes will be awarded for the best photographs.
If you are more into the idea of the race, that’s pretty awesome as well. There are a TON of balloons racing in this thing and it’s neat-o to watch them all take off. When the weather is nice and it’s a crisp Fall day, you feel so kitchy watching this Forest Park Balloon Race 2010. This is not something you would find in most cities and certainly something that screams St. Louis to me every time I see it. Kids love seeing the gigantic colorful balloons as they take over the softball fields of Forest Park.
