Getac Technology Corporation has recently announced the new versions of the S400 notebook with the latest generation of Intel Ivy Bridge processor, better graphics cards for stunning image and video experience and new Intel vPro technology support to protect the critical data and system from damaged and unauthorized access. On the press release, they also promises if the new Getac S400 semi-rugged notebook will give up to 5x higher graphics output and up to 44 perfect faster and more responsive system than it predecessor.
Of course, like other Getac device, new Getac S400 also comes with spill resistant keyboard and passes MIL-STD-810G and IP5X rating that make it can withstand from dust, spill, dropped from a height of 92cm and can operate well in extreme temperature ranges from -20 ° C up to 60 ° C, as well as new Getac’s Kryptoshell(TM) design technology. Unlike other conventional laptop on the market, the semi-rugged machine has multitouch capabilities for the 14.1 High Definition display that capable to produce maximum internal resolution at 1366×768 pixels. For outdoor uses, the screen comes with Anti-Glare technology for better viewing in direct sunlight and QuadraClear display for higher models.
Speaking of hardware configurations, the S400 will be released in two models. For standart model, the machine will be powered by a 2.6GHZ Intel® Core i3-3120M Processor that paired with Mobile Intel® HM76 Express for chipset and a 4GB of DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 8GB DDR3 SDRAM), while the higher model will be comes with a Mobile Intel® QM77 Express chipset and Intel® Core i5-3320M processor that features 3MB L3 cache and has a base cloc speed at 2.6GHz(backed by Intel’s Turbo Boost Technology for overclocking processor speed up to 3.3GHZ).
It also incorporated with an Intel HD graphics 4000 as graphics accelerator, 500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive that offers spacious of storage capacity, DVD super multi drive and pre-loaded with Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64 bit as the operating system. The 128 SATA SSD or 256GB SATA Solid State Drive (SSD) also available for potential buyers that need faster and more responsive system.
Weighing at 6.4 lbs (with a 8700mAh Li-Ion battery which offers up to 11 hours of battery usage on single charge) and measures in 13.7 x 10.15 x 1.93 inch, the notebook is thicker and heavier than commonly 14 inch laptop on the market, such as the Lenovo T430 2342-38U which has weighs only at 4.77 lbs with measures 13.4 x 9.1 x 1.2 inch. It also has full array of IO interface and connectivity features, include audio jack, microphone jack, 3x USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 / eSATA Combo port, VGA port, HDMI port, Docking connector, Multi memory card reader, Bluetooth v4.0, Gigabit Ethernet with RJ port and 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN, as well as optional GPS with internal antena and mobile broadband networks.
As we mentioned above, the S400 will be preloaded with a lot of security features, such as kensington lock, TPM 1.2 (Trusted Platform Module), fingerprint scanner, smart card reader and optional RFID and contactless smart card reader. “Integrated RFID, contactless Smartcard and Fingerprint Reader also make it one of the most secure notebooks on the market today,” says Antonio Carotenuto, Business Development Manager of Getac. Unfortunately, no word on pricing at this moment, but according the features and specs, we think the New Getac S400 Semi-Rugged Notebook is not a cheap machine.
